You may have heard about the coming updates with Apple that are going to have significant impacts on Facebook advertising. This news has been churning in the industry since late December of 2020. While there is still no definitive news on this situation, more is said to be coming. According to Social Media Today, there will be more information to on this on April 7th.
So, what do we know now? We know that this possible iOS update will prompt users to opt-out of Facebook’s data tracking. This means that it will be much harder to capture people via ads through their behaviors and demographics on Facebook. Though there is no official launch date for this update, we are bracing for it in the industry. Although this update would make advertising on Facebook much harder, it will not take away our ability to reach potential customers through ads and organic content.
At this time, it is unclear if this update will even go through with pushback from China and Facebook itself. For now, we will have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, it is best to keep your ads running and continue with business as usual. Hopefully, Apple and Facebook will play nice and find some middle ground concerning data tracking.
